Romantic River side Retreat Casa Boakoster

At the end of a small lane and overlooking the beautiful River Mira, lies Casa Boakoster. Having been uninhabited for the past 25 years, the house has been lovingly restored by professional carpenter Bas Koster, who has transformed this once-derelict property into a beautiful, charming villa that blends traditional Portuguese architecture with clean interior woodworking, a product of his carpentry experience in the Swiss Alps.

Not satisfied with rebuilding the roof and the first floor, Bas has completed the house by building a large wooden sun terrace that extends out from the ground floor and provides fantastic views over the river, a stone’s throw from the house. The terrace is the perfect place to sunbathe, BBQ and enjoy a glass of tinto and the proximity to the river means that the terrace always catches a little breeze which prevents it from getting too hot, even in the height of summer. Beneath the terrace lies the garden with various vegetables (please pick as you like) and the main entrance to the property.

Entering the house from the terrace, large double-doors lead into an open-plan living space, with kitchen, dining table and seating area. A hand-made wooden staircase leads up to the first floor and into the bedroom which occupies almost the entire floor space, the rest taken up by the bathroom with its large shower, wash basin and WC. Taking pride of place in the bedroom is a king-size bed, again with unbroken views over the river and to the hills beyond. The house can comfortably sleep four people, due to the double sofa-bed on the ground floor. Linen is included and cot for a baby is provided upon request.
